There's a two-and-a-half-year hiatus from Evig Pint to Maestro, and it shows- suddenly, the band knows how to make a theme album, and do it very well. This is where the band really came into its own. Personally, I prefer it to Ompa, but that may just be me (it wasn't as popular upon release). Like Ompa, it's still early, but feels a bit more put together as an album. This one's a bit darker than Ompa Til Du Dør was, focusing lyrically on hell, death, the soul, and such lovely Scandinavian themes. It's not stellar, but it's not bad it feels like Ompa, unsurprisingly, since all of the songs (I think) are rerecordings or releases of songs that didn't make the cut for Ompa.Īnother rerecording of a song that didn't make the cut, along with a live version of Bøn fra Helvete from Ompa. The first EP to be released after the original Kaizers Orchestra, consisting of three songs. It's not quite as sophisticated as, say, Maestro or the Violeta trilogy- it's still early- but it's pure Kaizers, and a good listen.

The disappointing sales of the Kaizers Orchestra EP notwithstanding, the band released this, their first full album, in 2001, which went platinum domestically and was critically acclaimed. It's clearly Kaizers (note the banging on oil cans, which you will hear again), but a bit dirtier, a bit more ragged, Kaizers in its earliest incarnation. It was a limited-edition EP (only a thousand copies were ever made), and consisted of four songs, three of which were later re-recorded the one that wasn't, Bastard, can be found on Youtube. This is the first recording by the band, and the one everyone forgets about. I'll cover the albums and the two major standalone EPs. They have released eight albums, a few EPs, and some miscellaneous recordings ( Live at Vega is pretty good there are some other live albums as well, and a stage musical called Sonny that was based on the Violeta trilogy. They are, however, pretty unknown in the English-speaking world (they played one gig in New York a few months ago, but that was a one-time deal). Nonetheless, they're widely popular in Europe, having played in Germany, Spain, Hungary, the rest of Scandinavia, and probably a few other European countries that I've forgotten. Kaizers Orchestra are an alternative rock band from Jæren, Norway, known mainly for a) not being a metal group and b) not singing in English.
